The Mizuiro Course opens with chilled chawanmushi made with clam broth and finishes with a bowl of bluefin tuna and grated yam. In between, it brings together three kinds of sashimi—bluefin tuna, striped jack and golden eye snapper—anago tempura seasoned with sansho pepper, and yaki-shabu made with domestic beef rib roast. Dessert follows with a rare cheesecake made with soy milk and amazake, as well as a black sesame cookie torte.
For a more substantial meal, the 9,000-yen Amasora Course adds two appetisers and steamed red sea bream, alongside sukiyaki made with domestic beef rib roast, a vinegared dish of rape blossoms and clams, and a chimaki with simmered anago. The 12,000-yen Choren Course puts charcoal-grilled spiny lobster with sea urchin tamago miso and charcoal-grilled domestic beef sirloin at the centre of the meal, then ends with a bluefin tuna seafood bowl. The courses offer a choice of meal size and main dishes, and suit occasions such as a celebration or business dinner when there is time to enjoy a leisurely meal.
At lunchtime, set meals offer a more casual option. The Daisen chicken oyakodon set, fragrant with truffle, and the negitoro seafood yukhoe bowl set are each 1,480 yen; the seafood bowl set and domestic beef rib roast sukiyaki bowl set are each 1,980 yen. Both seafood bowls come with fried Daisen chicken, nukazuke pickles, a small side dish and miso soup. The oyakodon and sukiyaki bowl are served with accompaniments such as a seared bonito salad.
For a drink with the meal, there is Mizuiro BEER, an original craft beer made with yuzu and sansho pepper. It is described as having a fine, creamy head, restrained sweetness and bitterness, and a dry finish. The original lemon sour is gently sweet, with a colourful gradient; both make for distinctive pairings with Japanese food.
The restaurant is on the 46 floor of Caretta Shiodome. Some visitors have singled out the chawanmushi and dishes featuring hamo. For a meal accompanied by views from a high floor, booking a course in advance may be a good option.
